No, it's nothing that ridiculously simple, and it's entirely possible that I am wrong...what concerns me much more about what you just said above, I
address below.

Yeah, I was a bit caricatural..

If you are still stuck in such a developer centric worldview, I can't help
but think that Etoile will never get off the ground. Nobody said
*ANYTHING* about *developers*. You assumed that, and IMHO that's not a
good thing. If you are marketing this desktop environment only towards
developers, you had better make that decision consciously now, instead of
pretending that you will be making a DE for non-development users. I
didn't think this was the goal of Etoile, but perhaps I am missing
something...

No, it's not that. We don't want to target "developers" (as in, creating a "developer desktop"), but at the same time, the most likely people that will try and use étoilé in the beginning are obviously developers and power users (after all, it runs on linux..)
But of course, you're right: we shouldn't *target developers*..

Nicolas has done a quick poll, British people prefer Étoilé to
Resonance, may be Étoilé is not so bad.

I never said it was :) I like the name, personally, but I do not think
it
would be generally received well by many (most?) Americans. That's not something I can really change, even though I happen to think it's lame.

Hm, but we're not doing a desktop for the "americans".. are we ?
No, of course not, but on the flipside, you're also not doing one for
Frenchmen only, are you? :) Etoile has no meaning at all for 99% of all
Americans. That's all I am asking that you consider. It had nothing to do
with a subset of them not liking French people, or anything else this
silly or ridiculously nationalistic.

yes, but having a "known word" is not automatically an important thing either.. If I see a project with a japanese name, and I read the description/see the sshots,
and it seems nice... I won't care about the name !

I'm not particularly interested by keeping étoilé or ditching it -- but
:
1) it seems that people on the list (and banlu) don't care

Well, here, I must say this is false. Banlu does seem to care, else he
would not have repeatedly advocated against the use of the name Resonance.

don't care in keeping étoilé.

2) most people seems to prefer étoilé to resonance
Do they? The information posted to the list earlier this morning by
someone (not me) seemed to indicate the reverse was actually true.

actually, on the "for resonance" list, me, quentin and banlu were included..

3) no other unanimously celebrated name proposition came up :-/

I thought the whole point of changing the name was because two projects
were merging, and developing a new name was supposed to reflect this, and be fair to both parties (at least that was my understanding from some IRC
discussions).

It was exactly that, yes.

But if both parties are really okay with it, then I guess it
doesn't matter.

yep. What can I say ? :-)

4) it's less work to keep it considering #3

... So frankly, and if no other good reasons or names come up, I think
we'll just keep étoilé/etoile.

Cheers,
