Adam-
Most likely your issue comes from the slow hard drive you have hooked up,
but it could just be lack of brute horsepower. Some things you should look
at, your burner shouldn't be on the same IDE channel as your hard drive or
your regular reader. That way you'll be able to get transfers between them
done without only one drive "talking" at the same time. With a slow 3.1 gig
drive, speed is quite possibly the biggest issue in which case that 40 gig
would help. But to warn you the 40 gig will most likely not be able to be
set as one drive because windows 95 and it's FAT filesystem dont' like large
drives.
Really it should help but there isn't much of a way to know for sure if you
don't just try it.

Subject: [etree] Probs recording at Max burner speed
Hey all-
I've got a HP 9100 series burner on a Pentium 200 MMX w/ 64megs RAM and
3.1 gig HD running Win95. The max burner speed is 8X, but (and I know
many of you will laugh or groan) I've never burned beyond 4x. Trying
to do so at 8x gives me the good ol buffer underrun (for DAO). Often,
I can burn disc to disc on the fly at 8x and sometimes TAO at 8x.
Also, I've only used Easy CD Creator, cause I've always assumed my
limitations were strictly hardware related.
Just wondering what factors come into play when it comes to feeding the
CD/RW drive properly to burn DAO. Saw an ad in Best Buy for a 40 gig
HD at 7200 rpm for cheap, and I'd like to know if this will fix my
problem. As stuff gets faster and cheaper, can I still use my archaic
machine to burn at blazing speeds?
Thanks for any help,
adam
