Memory is a factor here as well.  The more memory (RAM) you have, the
faster you'll be able to burn.  Also, if have your burner on a separate
IDE cable than your other devices (floppy, cdrom, hdd), your burner will
function faster/better.

Be sure that you check to make sure you're drives (burner and HD) are
set to DMA If Available, and not PIO.
