changing video modes

I know about ctrl + and ctrl - but everyone is right.  Changing from 16 to 256
to 24, to 32 bit.  Ok could someone write a program to change's the x.conf file
on the fly.  similar to xconfigurator.  I never even thought of it before.  I
just changed the resolution not the colors.  I think x would fly then if I
switched to 256 colors instead of my 32 bit high color mode.  I'm sure the guys
at KDE thought of this and are working on having it in KDE 2.0.  The rest of
the x managers would follow suite.
