xscreensaver and kss (the KDE screensaver) have an -onroot or -root option which lets you use the screensaver as a backdrop. It's a pretty good gee-whiz thing to impress your neighbors. The latest version of xscreensaver has a xmatrix mode, which is exactly what you are looking for. Also, try `xscreemsaver --help` to get the online help. At a minimum, it will tell you the names of the modes available. `xscreensaver -command -demo` will give you an interactive box to help you configure itself. Give it a try. Homepage for xscreensaver is here: http://www.jwz.org/xscreensaver/man.html --rybolov Ben Barrett wrote: > It's not really the jobs of the window manager, methinks, although most of > us _would_ like to see it integrated into our favorite wm's... > I haven't seen XF 4.0 yet, maybe they deal with it better there. > I understand there's a lot of new helpful abstrctions built in to the new > xserver, making video and HW acceleration simpler... > > NEW QUESTION: well it's not new really, but, > HOW do I get the xmatrix to run on the root window, background, of my x > session????
