I'm mid process of installing RedHat 6.2 on my laptop. From the looks
of it, it's just some software upgrades (except for enlightenment, those
clueless dorks!) with a fancy installer added.
It's not as slick as Mandrake 7's install routine, but it's very
intuitive and easy. I wasn't able to test the auto repartition of the
MS-DOS partition since it's a 100% Linux laptop, though. It is a bit
cludgy in that they use a lot of the gnome icons and it is X based, and
(probably) VGA based so it is ugly (like running XFree86-Setup for the
first time). I prefer the old install front-end better just b/c it's
simple, easy to see, and keyboard driven. (There may be an option to
use the old style, but I didn't look for one).
Just some thoughts from a redhatter. I've never had any problems with
redhat (Well, they do tell the pcmcia services to boot after the network
scripts which causes problems, but moving the link up the ladder to boot
before the network scripts fixes this. Oh, and linuxconf bites the big
one :).
If anyone wants a copy, let me know. I'm willing to burn an extra to
keep at Stan's if there is interest.
