Bob,
        errr your question is unclear, but ill try.... When you boot up,
you hold the DEL key (or whatever key sequence necessary to get into
your BIOS). You make changed in your bios (such as which boot device, hard
disk geometry...) when your done makeing changes, you have 2 ways to exit,
1 is to save changes, the other is to exit without saving changes), if you
save the changed, it gets written to a CMOS chip, these changes stay
untill the battery dies, or something shorts its curcuit. If you select
exit without saving changes, nothing is written to cmos.
