these are categories of packages

If you have these lines as your sources.list file, you should be able to get
all .deb packages main, contrib, and non-free categories of the stable
distribution, including non-US and update packages.

Not sure on this, but I'm pretty sure dkpg and the family only work on .deb
packages. There should be .deb for lyx on one of the sites in your sources.list
file. If you want to get something from Woody, s/stable/unstable/ in
sources.list.
