Greetings Everyone.

For a long time now I have been considering getting a laptop. One of my
requirements is it MUST be able to dual-boot.

Lately I have been researching the Sony Vaio F650, is anyone familier with
this model?

The Linux hardware database lists many Vaio 5xx series systems, but only
one 6xx series. Is this system Linux friendly or at least Linux
tolerable (I don't REALLY need sound, but do need modem and X)?

Is it's internal modem a real modem or a winmodem (Sony web site won't say)?

Will it's DVD-ROM read CD-R's (many won't, and some even damage the CD-R)?

I know that the sound system on many of the 5xx series can be made to work
with Linux and as I recall the F650's video chipset is based on the ATI
RAGE which I believe XFree86 4.0 supports.

Are there any other "problem areas" I should be aware of running Linux
on a laptop (for example, this system does not have an internal network
card so I would end up using a PCMCIA one)?

Is anyone using this model successfully with Linux?

Thanks for any insight you can give (as well as laptop pointers in
general, like should I get a hard-case for travel?).
