Cable is dead easy to setup in Linux. Probably easier than DSL or dial up. 
You've already got your answers to that one. The LUG should have copies of 
the latest RedHat and many more. If you wanted to sell your soul I have a kit 
to do it on EBAY. You'd be surprised what you can get for one (soul that is).
