I would like to point out consume.net, which has guided a lot of my inspiration on the subject. I agree with many points made, and esp. with the attitude of trying all ideas on for size to help eliminate the rumples in the carpet, so to speak. My idea (I hope to share my connection by 2002, and BTW my new DSL is up and running, hurrah!!!) is to share >50kbps to anyone who cares to use it, and if someone tries to DoS my wifi, I shall smite their MAC. Sounds so cool, huh? Almost like a humyn drama ;-) Now, as for fellow noders (in the context of consume.net nodes) or other trusted friends, I'd offer a VPN like IPsec with wider bandwidth per user, assuming I have it to spare. The bandwidth allocation problem is one of the least familiar to me -- anyone have any ideas or good links? I'm likely to be sharing my DSL connection to both multiple hardlines and also a wifi bridge, from my LAN, and want to be able to put a general cap on bandwidth per device, but would also allow dynamic scaling depending on MY usage... heh heh, sound fun? I'd like to see our LUGFreeNode CD have such capability, and of course use a mind-reading interface for system configuration... Well, I like the name "LUGFreeNode", anywhoo.
cheers! Ben
