i personally would suggest killing the "activism" list. it is hardly ever used. kill the other lists as well. next, i think we should split the mailing list into two. one may be called "Opinions" or some such. the other should just simply be EugLug.
thus : EUGLUG would simply be the technical forum and announcement board. a general list for questions related to linux and it's use and a discussion board for how-tos, installation, hardware issues, etc... also for announcement of new distros, meetings, programs, your child's first command line experience, whatnot. OPINIONS would be people asking about other's experience with certain programs, hardware, computer stores, etc... that should not be on the main mailing list. since it also encompasses peoples opinions, it could be used for a activism" or political discussion as well. that way, we have two mailing lists to subscribe to, instead of eighty billion little ones that try to cover every known topic. unfortunately, moderating the list then becomes the task of us all. if someone posts an opinion to the EUGLUG list, all replies should be sent to OPINIONS. people will get the idea. if you don't care about other's opinions (it's not to be taken like that...) you can simply subscribe to EUGLUG only. that way, you get your daily dose and don't have to wade through people flaming each other over the computer stores they like (or whatever it is this week...) as an aside, i appologize for anything i've said, but i do have my life experiences, and they may differ from yours. THIS is why i'd like to see an opinion list. > -----Original Message----- > From: larry a price [mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED]] > Sent: Tuesday, November 20, 2001 10:43 AM > To: [EMAIL PROTECTED] > Subject: [EUG-LUG:106] Dexter's Query (was Fry's) > > > I'm tempted to be smartassed and say something like > Why don't we start a eug-lug-tech list so that we don't clutter the > main list with useless technical questions that no one can answer? > > On the one hand, I do sort of understand where dexter's coming from > and wouldn't want to squelch that kind of energy.
