Summer, 98? I'd just come to the realisation that I couldn't
afford both Windows 95, a new hard drive, and rent. Late summer, after a
Linux Showcase, where S.u.S.E. (before they dropped the dots) distributed
free CD's with their brand new 5.2 release, a copy of one of which I
acquired and installed. My first distribution.
As I recall, somebody (Jim Darragh, maybe James Kaplan?) had put
an announcement on LinuxToday, which is where I found that there was to be
a Eugene Linux User Group while I was trying to figure out whether and how
to get Linux.
Yeah, I was a little late to the party.
