What sort of computer are you using.  With Man 8.2  AMD k6-2 (k6-3 also?)
and via or some sis chipsets
there can be some problems ( concerning vitual memory, a problem with the
kernel I believe. This would be a possible source of your problem on a
machine just upgraded where and a large amount of memory wo you would not
have needed to use cache during installation.). Also you might check with
your video card to see if there are known problems with them and 8.2.
