(de-lurking)

I have been following with interest the recent discussions about Linux
Servers and windows shares. Just out of curiosity I bought a CPU case
and power supply, to see if I could build a linux server out of spare
parts I have accumulated over time. I'm NO techie and have never
attempted anything like this. But I lucked out and it seems that
the knowledge I do have was enough. I have my new linux box running
now...here are the specs...:)

PII 400mhz CPU (left over from my 1 gig CPU upgrade on my winxp box)
272 mgs mem
SIS AGP graphics adapter with 4/mgs
US Rob. Sportster fax/data modem
DVD/CDROM ide drive
8.5 Gig ide
floppy drive
128bit PCI Audio card
netgear fast ethernet adapter

I tested it with win98 before I installed linux and my ethernet
card worked great. I haven't had much luck getting samba up and
running though....sigh....but I will.

Can anyone recommend a good site for reading up on samba and winshares.
i.e (a cookbook course). I need step by steps...and examples sigh.
To me the smb.conf file is cryptic to a novice. I have never used
samba before...

Also what was that thread about making your linux server the beefy one
and make the winshares the weaker of the two?
As things are now my Winbox is 1 Gig CPU PIII and now my linux server is
400 mgz, should I change that around?

Thanks a google....in advance

Daniel
