Well, Intel doesn't make a D850EMV Mobo: it DOES make a D850EMV2 Mobo
though. Having nothing better to do I looked at the Redhat site for error
codes &/or some mention of the D850EMV motherboard: nothing (hum...). I then
went to Intel's site and found the following:

 Intel Desktop Board D850EMV2
"Designed for Windows XP"
<snip>
Supported Operating Systems :

The Intel Desktop Board D850EMV2 supports the following operating systems:
Windows* XP
<snip>
Red Hat* Linux* (Limited Driver Support

You might want to try their Chipset Update Utility. The D850E chipset is
software updateable. See http://support.intel.com/support/chipsets/inf/
