It's not my machine, but I'll give that a try.  I'm curios if it will boot 
with the floppy.

I found one thing on goole that looked promising, it said that if you have 
a genuine intel with the D815, D845 or D850 chipsets you may need to...
the link was dead.  google did not have a cache of the web page.  The page 
was an archive of the redhat-list list, it mentioned a digest number.  
Couldn't find the digest.   
I'm hoping it's just a boot parameter to enable ata-100 or something 
stupid like that.
