Actually there are certifications out there that do mean something;
for instance the sage certification ( http://sage.org ) would probably make a difference
if the choice were between two equally experienced people and the person making the choice were clueful...
Unfortunately there is no perfect measuring stick for ability only more or less functional indicators.
And clueful hiring committees are almost an oxymoron.
