Mike,
        Without seeing the message its kinda difficult to guess, but Ill give it a
try... My guess is that its not a kernel issue, but rather a lilo issue.

You may be having an issue with video mode in lilo, edit your /etc/lilo.conf,
and use:
vga = normal
and comment out any other vga lines.

Then run lilo, shutdown, remove the tv tuner, and start it up...

If that doesnt do it, see if you can send us the error message, or atleast
try to remember some of the key words.

All i can really tell you about the LILO prompt getting stuck you can easily
find in the lilo man pages. Your getting stuck at L, which means your bios
is loading the MBR, and the MBR is loading the first stage loader, but is
failing before turning control to the second stage loader (yeah... i know,
your thinking well thats nice, but how do i fix it?).

I still maintain the point that designing a monolithic kernel in 1991 is a
fundamental error. Be thankful you are not my student. You would not get a
high grade for such a design :-)
