So... Im finally getting around to setting up a firewall with IPTables. I
havent built a firewall since IPMASQ, and well.. IPTables is a bit different.
Cory did a great presentation a few years back, one of the best presentations
weve had I might add :)
So, What I want is pretty simple, I have a small net behind a cable router,
and I want to share internet access, and basic protection. Advanced features
of IPTables is quite impressive, but a few simple rules should be all I need
for a basic firewall/gateway box. I would also be interested in seeing some
nice rules that people have used for specific needs (like, I had a guy
pinging my box a lot and I did this, or I didnt want ftp for every one, just
this IP, or I wanted to run a webserver on my workstation, so I routed port
80 requests from the firewall to this IP address, ... If you have any stories
how you used IPTables some great way that might be interesting too!
Oh.. lets assume that eht0 is internet side, and eth1 is private net.

...you might as well skip the Xmas celebration completely, and instead
sit in front of your linux computer playing with the all-new-and-improved
linux kernel version.
