This probably isn't much help, but I teach this in my Linux 
Sysadmin class at LCC.  However, I won't be covering it this term 
until Dec. 3.

You can download my lecture slides for that class from

but that might not be much help either since it's meant to go with 
a lecture and isn't very detailed by itself.  Plus, it's in 
OpenOffice format and therefore not viewable with a Web browser 
-- you have to download it and then open it in OOo.

If you want an iptables script that "just works" I have an old one 
I used to use at

www.peak.org/~mountainman/classnotes/3372/rc.firewall

It's one I downloaded off the net years ago and used until I moved 
my firewall to an OpenBSD box.  It's set up for dialup; you'll 
have to tweak it but I don't think it will be difficult to figure 
out what to tweak (change ppp0 to eth1 or whatever).
