This probably isn't much help, but I teach this in my Linux Sysadmin class at LCC. However, I won't be covering it this term until Dec. 3. You can download my lecture slides for that class from www.peak.org/~mountainman/classnotes/3372/Session10.sxi but that might not be much help either since it's meant to go with a lecture and isn't very detailed by itself. I would also be interested in seeing some > nice rules that people have used for specific needs If you want an iptables script that "just works" I have an old one I used to use at www.peak.org/~mountainman/classnotes/3372/rc.firewall It's one I downloaded off the net years ago and used until I moved my firewall to an OpenBSD box. It's set up for dialup; you'll have to tweak it but I don't think it will be difficult to figure out what to tweak (change ppp0 to eth1 or whatever).
