Legacy Soundblasters have a driver that : starts with "sb" and the Ensoniq Soundblasters have a driver that : starts with "es."
that is true, however, Creative Labs bought out ensonic several years ago. many (especially older, and ISA) sound cards can be used with the sb module (ie modprobe sb) as soundblaster set the standards a very long time ago, and many manufatcurers kept soundblaster compatibility in thier devices. : : It's possible that the "emul" driver is trying to drive your : on-board sound chip. Are you sure you have it disabled in CMOS? : : If your soundblaster is a legacy (i.e., ISA) card, you will need : to run a little program called "sndconfig." It's not installed : by default in any of the distros that I use and probably isn't in : Mandrake either, so you'll have to find it & install it. It has : a little bonus: as a soundcard test, it plays a recording of : Linus explaining how he pronounces "linux." sndconfig is a redhat program, it works pretty good, but re-running it can cause some problems sometimes... anyway, it should be in mandrake.. it has been in previous versions... I think the first thing to do is identify your soundcard! If its a pci soundcard, lspci should show it. catting some files in your proc should also give you some info: cat /proc/pci cat /proc/interrupts cat /proc/ioports cat /proc/dma cat /proc/devices Jamie : : Ken : : _______________________________________________ : EuG-LUG mailing list : [EMAIL PROTECTED] : http://mailman.efn.org/cgi-bin/listinfo/eug-lug -- Linux is obsolete -- Andrew Tanenbaum _______________________________________________ EuG-LUG mailing list [EMAIL PROTECTED] http://mailman.efn.org/cgi-bin/listinfo/eug-lug
