Lots of good advice so far. The last remaining thing that affects how the proper drivers works is whether or not your card is retail or OEM. There is an actual difference in the design of the two that affects cost and performance. Generally speaking, the cards with all gold connectors are the easiest working. Colored connectors are OEM cards and can be more of a hassle. So, armed with all that knowledge... you're off to the trenches.
