So I occasionally dual boot back to winders, to keep the beast updated with
fresh virus definitions and the like. I was tweaking the software a bit,
and as I removed Outlook Express, I ran "strings" on it (via cygwin) and
noticed 4 counts of "File written by Adobe PhotoShop 4.0". Two of them are
preceeded by JFIF and two by 8BIM. Just curious, indeed, so I checked some
other windows DLL's that way, and only found reference in twain.dll's
credits section to an Adobe employee who helped.
I did find one more, WINDOWS/system32/wmploc.dll with 12 references to
Adobe. There's a lot of references to other companies in general, I
understand, and I hope y'all don't find this off-topic for the list.
I just wanted to share a little fooling around with unixy tools.

It looks from the OE's dll, msoeres.dll in my XP Home factory install, that
MS used Photoshop to produce this. Not a crime by any means, assuming they
licensed it; but odd that I'm not seeing it's signature elsewhere, if they
did choose to license and use Adobe Photoshop. Collaboration makes for good
results, I just can't imagine MS saying "Okay, we'll use your software".
But I've read that many developers on the redmond campus use linux...

Well, good evening. Hopefully this will spark someone's curiosity in other
ways... enjoy.

   Ben
