I used to know Samba well, but haven't had a chance to use it in a 
production environment for a couple of years now.  So I asked my 
friend Peter Shearer, who is not on this list, what he knows.  
His reply:

I believe that they deprecated and removed the smb.conf "logon
script" parameter from the 3.0 tree because each authentication
subsystem (i.e. ldapsam, tdbsam) has its own way of determining 
that value.  Certainly, if it isn't removed at this point, I know 
that it doesn't work.  So at this point, I believe the only way 
to set up the logon script is to use the pdbedit app as said 
below.  Someone might want to verify that, but I believe this is 
the case.

That said, I believe that it is still available in the 2.2 
software, but I wouldn't go back to that stuff.  :)
