I lived in the Baltimore-DC area from about 10 years and did quite a
bit of cycling (on and off road). There are a number of great bike
paths - most of them were railways or mule tow paths (canals) in thier
previous lives. The C&O canal is a well-known one - great for canoe
tripping too BTW; another is a Rails-to-Trails (www.railtrails.org)
route between Glen Burnie and Annapolis, MD. Another good R2T is
in Baltimore County and runs from Cockeysville to York, PA (Harley
fans will want to do the assy plant tour in York).

I don't miss the Beltway traffic either...
