so all this talk about a meeting place has everyone trying to figure out what we need to meet---which directly ties into WHY we meet. I think we need to figure out what our purpose is, mission statement, etc.. here's my take on it even as a newbie:

WHY WE MEET:

*to promote and attract new users to linux
*to demonstrate/introduce linux to new users
*to facilitate those interested in using linux on their machines
*to help others with problems encountered using linux
*to feed Neal

i think we've been successful at accomplishing most of the above goals (not sure about feeding neal) in a fairly unstructured and informal way. i think it would be nice if we advertised in some way other than the website (put up posters during the year, word of mouth, etc.) i also think it would be nice if we actually "met' for a portion of each meeting, as a group, with a simple agenda, not necessarily about "business" but more oriented toward OS related stuff. we could have "subject of the week" with different people facilitating this.

i'd appreciate if we can build on this idea of having a purpose to come up with some structure just a little bit so we can be effective at achieving our goals (besides feeding neal).
