If it's a pre SP2 setup you'll want to disable Messenger service
which is unrelated to the ever annoying MSN Messenger. Do that
through Control Panel, Admin Tools, Serivces. That way when you
do connect to the 'net XP won't broadcast itself. Use a router
if you can. Install Firefox and remove the IE icon from the
desktop. Windows Update will always default to IE so don't worry
about that.
