Would this hold true if you were to buy a Hauppauge card and nothing generic? I think their cards are some of the best supported for *ALL* PVR applications (*nix & Win).
I have(had) a Knoppmyth box with a PVR-250 and a generic Nvidia tv-out card.
Knoppmyth finds the pvr-250 without any trouble and even comes with a scipt(I think just the generic nvidia one) to download and install the nvidia drivers.
Works like a champ.
