MAC is something your ethernet card has.  Gnome is nothing like a Mac,
however.  Not even sorta close maybe.  It's as Windows-like as KDE is,
only comes with slightly more sane defaults.  (Pulsing/bouncing app icon
in the mouse cursor when you launch something?  Good grief!)
