JPEG is a compression format, it sounds like your higher resolution photos are either not getting encoded correctly, or are being corrupted sometime between the time they are taken and the time you open them with the gimp. checklist 1. is this happening with every high resolution image? 2. if not what is the common factor? 3. if so, does it still happen if you swap in a different memory (SD) card?
