In "real" VMware, you install the VMTools package. Boot the guest OS
(Windows), pull down the VM menu and select "Install VMware Tools".
That simulates inserting a CD-ROM with the needed drivers which are
automatically loaded (for a feeble, Windowsish value of
"automatically" which means "click away several dialogs without
reading them.")
I haven't used VMware Player, so I don't know whether it uses the same
mechanism.
