Answers to comments/questions: Rio supports Ogg on some players. My 20GB Rio Karma does Ogg just fine, there is unofficial support for mounting the filesystem in linux, and the base plugs into the network so you can use the java app to manage music.
It was Sandisk that approached Rockbox. Not quite a no-name company. I believe they are also the ones behind "idont.com". DRM does suck your battery dry. If you load up with non-DRM music on a "Plays for Sure" device you won't have to worry about your battery. Oh, and double and triple "A" batteries come in affordable rechargables too. That be all, Mr O. A bunch of people wrote: Take a look at the RockBox project. It's an open source replacement firmware for several brands mp3 players. I thought I read recently that some no-name company is shipping mp3 players with RockBox preinstalled, but I can't find it now. ___________________- Which models besides the iRiver, support ogg playback? ______________________ "PlayForSure" is the Microsoft branded DRM. "PlaysForS%$%^" is more like it. (It is a very troublesome bit of code to keep working, even if you do use Microsoft products.) It also drains battery life on the device because of the extra cpu load. __________________________________________________ Do You Yahoo!? Tired of spam? Yahoo!
