Greetings,

I have a Gforce FX 5900 Ultra card. So the hardware end is taken care of.

In the past, I was able to have Gnome running over Enlightenment. Now, I want to run KDE over Gnome. The Distro is Mandriva 2006. I have a Gig of ram so memory issues shouldn't be a problem.

With regards,
Ron

Accelerated 3D (openGL) requires appropriate hardware like an
Nvidia or ATI video card. Other chipsets will work but not as
well. If your distribution has the drivers available in a
package manager then try to install that way.
As for KDE and Gnome, as long as you don't automatically login
to the desktop and you start with a login screen you'll be able
to choose your session before logging in and choose KDE or
Gnome. You may have to make sure it's installed.
Name your distro and you'll get pointed in the right direction.

Greetings all,

First, It appears that my video output is being processed by
openGL rather than allowing the onboard GPU of the graphics card do the work. This is resulting in really crappy framerates. Is there a way to change this???

Second, I would like to load Gnome over KDE. It seems to me
that there is a file that I need to alter to make this happen.

Any thoughts?
Thanks
Ron

I was offered a job as a hoodlum and I turned it down cold. A thief is
anybody who gets out and works for his living, like robbing a bank or
breaking into a place and stealing stuff, or kidnapping somebody. He really
gives some effort to it. A hoodlum is a pretty lousy sort of scum. He
works for gangsters and bumps guys off when they have been put on the spot.
Why, after I'd made my rep, some of the Chicago Syndicate wanted me to work
for them as a hood -- you know, handling a machine gun. They offered me
two hundred and fifty dollars a week and all the protection I needed. I
was on the lam at the time and not able to work at my regular line. But
I wouldn't consider it. "I'm a thief," I said. "I'm no lousy hoodlum."
