I have a Gforce FX 5900 Ultra card. So the hardware end is taken care of.
In the past, I was able to have Gnome running over Enlightenment. Now, I
want to run KDE over Gnome. The Distro is Mandriva 2006. I have a Gig of
ram so memory issues shouldn't be a problem.

As for KDE and Gnome, as long as you don't automatically login
to the desktop and you start with a login screen you'll be able
to choose your session before logging in and choose KDE or
Gnome. You may have to make sure it's installed.
Name your distro and you'll get pointed in the right direction.
