Well I got a Wii .. and it found my network with WPA2 no problemo.. if
thats any consolation it seems they are catching up.
The first thing the Wii did was check and upgrade its firmware .. maybe
if you just got the DS on long enough to update itself it would then do
WPA ?

I thought about a 2nd wireless router that did WEP but wouldn't it be
over the same frequency? Oh, but I just thought about the channels.
They could be over different channels, right?
The DS does provide it's MAC address, so I could do it that way. My
preference would be to buy a cheap WAP and bridge it to the Linksys,
possibly over ethernet and keep them in the same closet.
What else do I need to know?

AFAIK the radios support only one [encryption] mode at a time; I've

So unless I missed something too I think you'd either need to run a
2nd router (or make a 1-1 connection for the DS Lite).
If the current conclusions that WPA is better than WEP hold up, and
you're using WPA for general usage,
then you'd be advised to further lock down whatever WEP connection to
do bridge to your WAN/LAN, for instance:
Does the DS need to reach only the WAN, or other LAN devices? (aside
from its ad-hoc wifi -- provide on the routing needed)
Can you further lock down the WEP radio to only talk to your DS's MAC
address? This might hinder visitors' DS's... up to you.
Seems to me like a spare WEP device ona system you can control
routing on would do the trick. :)
If you don't have a routing computer power on enough of the time, then
it seems like a spare cheap router would be needed.

I got a Nintendo DS Lite for Christmas. Unfortunately it doesn't
support wireless using WPA, only WEP. Since I don't have any hard
wired
systems in my house I'd rather not downgrade the security of my
wireless. I've got a Linksys WRT-54 -- one of the good ones, and
it's
running the stock software.
Is there a way to offer both WPA and WEP from the same router? Is it
even a good idea? Are there other options for keeping my wireless
secure but allowing my DS Lite to connect?
