It mounts the encrypted volume as a filesystem, hence the "real-time
(on-the-fly) and transparent <http://www.truecrypt.org/docs/>" bit. Hence
the need for a kernel module. Though I've heard some rumblings about using
it with FUSE. I kinda doubt they'll ever go there though as it (arguably)
increases the attack surface of the encryption system, and the TC guys are
preyyt hardcore infosec nerds.
