Kool. Just what I wanted to hear.
Have read that there's a ten percent loss off the actual 500gigs in
formatting--but this seems pretty standard.
The advertised space on the 250 claims that, formatted, there's slightly
MORE than 250 gigs of space, so maybe they're packing a 280gig drive in
there--or else they're lying.
But anyhoo, I'm glad to hear there are no overheating probs.
Thanx Rachel for your prompt and thoughtful reply,
m

I've used them a bit and they seem to work fairly well. I've been using
a 500GB model for an external backup drive at a client's for about 4
months now without any issues.

Just wondering if any of you rotorheads have any experience with the WD
MyBook external hard drive.
They seem to get cheaper every day and I've been thinking how great it
would be to have a nice 250gig or so external HD to back up to.
My experience with external drive enclosures has been that if they don't
have cooling fans, they overheat. But most of the new external
enclosures don't seem to have cooling fans anymore.
Any thoughts/advice, o ye maestros?
Thanx a meg,
m
