You can run multiple X servers on the main computer. That way you can
switch between her window and your window using
ctrl-alt F7  ctrl-alt F8

Just do ctrl-alt F6
you will get a virtual console with a login prompt.
then login to your wife's account
then do
startx -- :1
this will start another virtual server on console 8
when you want to switch back to your account use ctrl-alt F7
and to switch to her account use ctrl-alt F8
I don't know how this will work with NXmachine, but you can find out.
