Just in time for Comcast to rename/remarket it's cable/internet/phone business as "xfinity", promising 100Mbit broadband service.
I presume the xfinity 100Mbs service is based on fiber to the home only? I suspect such service will be mostly upgrades in existing service areas, not pushing out service to underserved areas that need it.
I'm mostly concerned for those who reside in established towns or urban areas who don't have access to broadband. The people and children residing in such areas do not have the same opportunities. (but some may view this as a plus).
I have fast enough service. Some family and friends out on the near fringe don't. Some who could afford it, have resorted to satellite internet with very horrible results. Others are still on POTS dial-up.
People who have the money to build new homes deep in the woods or on the range can figure out a way to obtain broadband on their own.
Broadband service is way over priced in America. _______________________________________________ EUGLUG mailing list [email protected] http://www.euglug.org/mailman/listinfo/euglug
