The problem is that you have to add a boost converter stage to step up the 120Vdc to 170Vdc before making 120Vac (ie, 120*1.414=169.7). This sounds like a job for Otmar.
He converted a 12V inverter to a 12V input from solar cells to 120V+ output charger, so this task shouldn't be too difficult. Rod P.S. you can get a 36Vdc to 1.5kw inverter from www.electrictractor.com I have been looking for a 120VDC to 120VAC ~2kW inverter to add to my truck without much luck. I would have thought that it would be cheaper to build one that uses 120 VDC than one that uses 12 VDC though the market is smaller so no production volume discount.
