They are easier and cheaper to build *IF* you want a non-isolated
output. As soon as you go to an isolated output, then input and output
voltage don't matter much -- any combination is about the same price,
all things being equal.

The problem with a 120vdc input is that there isn't much demand. Thus
they are hard to find, and tend to be disproportionately expensive due
to lower production volumes.

Exeltech <http://www.exeltech.com/> makes hight voltage input inverters.
Their XP and MX series both can be ordered with 108vdc (95-149vdc)
inputs. The biggest XP inverter is 1100 watts (2200 watts peak). The MX
series is modular; you can add as many modules as you want to get any
power level. But they are isolated, full sinewave, and expensive!
