I suppose the rubber hose and heatshrink would be subject to possible slicing, and PVC 
can be brittle. However, that gray Schedule 80 
plastic pipe is pretty tough. I've driven over it with a large back-hoe and although 
it slightly deflected the shape, it bounced right back. 
The other advantage is that it is threaded, so no glue.
