Ken I have rented and used the Uhaul equipment as you mentioned. I recommend you spend the little more money and get the flat bed. Rental companies in this area have so much business they want advance appointments to use their equipment. If your local Uhaul does not have the equipment you want, go to another nearby Uhaul.
Don't ask their people to call, they are clueless. You don't need a snotty high school girl employee to tell you "that's not my job", like I have experienced. Seth is right that you make sure the Uhaul equipment is working correctly. Check the belts and chains on the flat bed before plunk your money down.
