I recently picked up a EV '78 VW Rabbit (fully populated with batteries) and
towed it about 250 miles using a U-Haul car dolly.  As I recall it was
priced about $39/day.  It towed very nicely behind my Nissan Xterra, even at
speed WELL above those recommended by U-Haul.

Initially, I had reserved a U-Haul car carrier, but after I saw how big,
bulky, heavy and expensive it was, I changed my mind and went with the
dolly. (Even the U-Haul rep thought the carrier was way overkill for the
job) Smart move.  I think the car carrier weighed as much as the VW!

Don't use the car carrier unless you have no other choice, for example, the
vehicle simply can't be towed.
