If they actually last this long and who would only
use 20% of their batt capacity?

Because they are used in industral, aero, mine are
from medical use and they always overrate them for
safety, long life. Mine are 27+ years old and still
even with bad abuse they put out more than it's
rating.
Will Lithium, Ni-MH do that? They cost 3x + as
much too.

But ni-cads are overspec so they can and do.
Can Li-ion or Ni-MH?

But lifetime is the big thing!!!
They put out higher spec power, much easier,
faster, cheaper charger-ing, cheaper to buy, run,
takes abuse well, no problem with cold weather and
better in hot than the others high tech, LA batts.
Other than these the others are okay!!!!
What more could you want?

Where did you get that?
Golf cart batts beat ni-cad about 30/40% over 20
years in $/mile.
I agree that SLA's are more expensive than
ni-cads and probably Ni-zn depending on app but for
overall price you can't beat golf cart batt!!!
In fact the main problems with your ac systems
is the # of batts/ cells you need causing you to use
expensive, short lived, low capacity batts or really
pricy higher tech ones and pricy chargers for either.
