Electathon programs are low cost entry level for the education
of students (usually). These are not street legal (or even usable)
EVs. It costs almost nothing for a corporation to get the 
'good guy' PR this way.

It is likely that Ford already spent the money on this, and it is 
a left over of all the 'good things' they had been doing, when
they suddenly did an 'about face'.

It is these about face actions that slaps anyone that has heard 
their public commitment to EVs. 

Something to mention to the press, Honda, GM, now Ford have done
this. It makes one wonder about any other public commitment to 
'new' technologies.
