Fuel Cells could be an excellent on site generating plant.
I'm currently working with several fuel cell companies
on 5KW on site generating units.
They run off various fuels, including natural gas.
They are using BLDC pumps and my patent pending closed
loop feedback pressure controlled blower.
They claim on board (automotive) Fuel Cell units are very complicated
and I'm guessing far off in the future to be practical.
The stationary units however will be available in the near
future. I would prefer wind or solar generation, but this
is a step in the right direction.
Being realistic I think it is next to impossible to rule out
gasoline reformers since the infrastructure is already there.
But the good news is that either way the drive trains are
electric. This will bring down the cost of battery powered
EV's considerably if an electric drive train is mass produced.
I don't think this will happen anytime soon, but at least
it is one step closer.
I also think Hybrid technology will bring down the cost of
EV drives since motors and controls will be mass produced lowering
the cost of components we use.
Until we weed wack the Bush, oil rules the US economy, but
we can still use some of the components used in alternative
energy vehicles.
Disclaimer: This assumes Bush doesn't start WWIII and blow us
into oblivian. The axis of evil, Bush, Cheney, Rumsfield

I took a quick look at the site. Mr. Weaver and company seem
to have assumed "the answer" is hydrogen fuel cells. While I
tend to agree, I'm not willing to wait the five-to-forty
years it might take for us to get there.
It appears that it might not be quite as long as all that... unless you
are holding out for something from the Big 3 ;^>
