Bill answered your question perfectly. Thanks, Bill. I would add that you may want to carry out a capacity test on each 6v module. Your lowest capacity battery will determine your useful range and should be monitored so it's not reversed or overdischarged. You would do this by actually cycling each battery and measuring the amp-hours withdrawn to an on-load voltage of 1.75 volts per cell.
Terminal voltage is not really very useful in determining capacity.
