a comment. there are probably retired EV enthusiasts who know way more than any
sales rep at an auto dealership.
find a dealership close by and tell them to hire you on comission and you will
sell EV's only, that you have years/decades of real world experience and
knowlege and you could make more foot traffic at their dealership because you
have expertise they don't, would need little training etc etc.
instead of testing the dealership about their knowlege, become their knowlege
and EVangelize in the process and increase the number of EV's out there

I am glad to hear that there are better dealerships. And likely if I
were to go to each dealership in my area, I would also find
'better-ones' like Rick did.

If that Ford Focus EV had not been prep'd for an immediate customer sell
(yay!), I would have asked to sit in it (gawd, it has been way-too long
since I have gotten my EV-fix). I physically fit in the Focus EV better
than a Leaf EV.

On that point, when Toyota had their compliance RAV4-EV (rev2) at the
Silicon Valley Rally last year (2012), I fit much better in that
vehicle. So, it is understandable that I look forward to when Nissan
starts selling their NV200 van EV. When they do, I will go to a
different Nissan dealership than I posted about.

...
[Fuel, ice, and pih discussions are generally OT on the evdl, but Rick
posted a pih/phev experience, so there is some over-lap. Lets just not
let this OT discussion go on too long]

Rick is likely already aware of this, but I will mention it encase
others are not. For those pih drivers that like to drive mostly in
EV-mode (using the on-board ice as little as possible), be sure to
record when you added fuel to the tank. That way you can keep track of
how old it is getting.

In a regularly used ice, the fuel does not have the chance to get
old/break-down/get-gummy as it is burned off. But fuel that sits for
long periods of time in the fuel system can & will leave deposits/mess
things up.

If you have not already, I suggest you check with the vehicle's manual
and ask your vehicle's forum if your pih has the same programing the
Volt pih has: to routinely run the ice for short periods to burn off
some fuel (that not only moves fuel through the fuel lines/system, but
eventually burns off old fuel out of the tank).

If I were in Rick's pih situation, I would wait to burn off as much fuel
as possible before adding fresh fuel to the tank. If a long trip comes
up, you could plan to stop at a station just outside of town when your
fuel is safely at its lowest.
