If he can get the price to about one-third of that - maybe even half - he
might actually have some customers. You'd have to have a pretty nearly
terminal case of Bug Nostalgia to spend $50k on a 50 year old car that cost
less than $2000 new.

Now, if these were Bug-EYEs - as in Sprites - that might be different. Or
other small, light, sporty cars - Triumph Spitfires, MGB-GTs, Sunbeam
Alpines, Fiat 850 Spiders, Opel GTs and the like - yea verily even Karmann
Ghias - that might be another story too.

Not that I hate Bugs or anything. I never owned one, but my father had a
'61, and I rode in many more driven by my high school and college friends.
(Nothing else quite feels or sounds like a Bug.)

It's just that ... well, Bugs were cheap cars, for goodness sake. So were
Geo Metros, and Solectria didn't exactly have buyers lining up for their $30-
36k Metros. I trust that these folks don't really expect customers to beat
down their showroom (or shop) doors for a $50k VW Beetle EV.
